Product Placement refers to the positioning and use of brand name packaged goods that are needed to create realistic sets in film and television. Everything the audience sees is part of the story. This means the actors, of course, but it also refers to the clothes, cars, packaged goods, locations and everything visible on the screen. Props and locations are integral parts of the narrative, and they tell us about who the characters are through where they go, what they do, what they eat and what products they like to use. Props are essential to the creation of the set, and if they are going to be there anyway, they might as well be your brand. It's a win-win situation.
